DOJ Announces that $4.6 Billion remains for WTC 9/11 Victims
Today’s release of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report by the Department of Justice (DOJ) is good news for sufferers of 911-related cancers and other illnesses, to the tune of $4.6 billion in additional funding made available for victim compensation.
From today’s DOJ release:
To date, the VCF has made more than 21,000 eligibility decisions, finding more than 16,900 claimants eligible for compensation. The VCF had also made award determinations on more than 13,000 of those claims, including over 11,000 responders. More than 4,000 of these claimants suffer from one or more cancers related to their 9/11 exposure, while the remainder suffer from other, often times disabling, physical injuries.
The VCF on its own website tells potential claimants that “Your attorney is in the best position to let you know exactly what has been submitted to the VCF and when it was submitted, and can update you on any requests the VCF has made for additional information.
